1. Why do you want to be a lab director and/or orientation leader? What, in your opinion, are the benefits of acting as lab director and/or orientation leader?
I would like to be an orientation leader at Fielding Graduate University to engage with new students. I believe in giving back, and I understand the benefit of having an experienced student as a leader. There could be dozens of new students entering the post-baccalaureate program, experiencing some level of anxiety is normal when entering a new environment. Therefore they may feel uncomfortable reaching out to a professor. The group encompasses fourteen students from different time zones. Although there was a rough start, we are currently awaiting a response to our IRB application to move to stage 2. I had to motivate the researchers to complete their work in a timely manner. There were times when students were a week late with turning in their annotated bibliography. I had to constantly remind them of the importance of their contribution. This required me to effectively communicate with them as their research leader. I firmly believe that my communicating with them impacted their performance. After students submitted their annotated bibliography many students asked for feedback because it was their first time conducting one. Therefore I read all fourteen annotated bibliographies and provided feedback based on the information I learned in Dr. Lannon's
