Organization Structure and Your Career Path
When it comes to organizational structure and a person’s personal career path one must look at all the different items that are available to them to reach their personal goals. When one looks at the organizational structure of a college, they may ask themselves how they will ever work their way up to become the Dean of the College. When a person is working in the banking industry, their goal may be to become a bank president one day. A person would need to ask himself or herself what they are doing each day that gets them closer to the actual goal they have set for themselves.

Many times roles can be assumed based on the titles; however, titles can be misleading from an org chart alone. Unfortunately, many people wrongly rely on an org chart to see if certain functions overlap. This is much better achieved through process mapping where one can get a better look at the organizational structure as to the tasks that are actually being performed day to day and to see who is actually performing the work. With this knowledge, it can help, but individual better understand how to move up the ladder towards their career goals, on a predetermined career path.
Where I was able to put this to use in practice came specifically when I was involved with a startup company in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. I have the ability to process map all functions that take place in the areas of loss mitigation and foreclosure. They must quickly learn whom they can rely on. So not to be putting too much emphasis into one manages input. A well-seasoned executive will be able to give simple tasks to people he will be relying upon just to see how they are carried out. Sometimes it is a good idea to make contacts with external networks quickly and solicit their feedback on how things operated prior to your arrival. A person can find the vendors will be more than willing to share their experience with you on how things were running day today, from their perspective. Their perspective can be an invaluable tool in gauging how performance was handled in the type of quality you can expect from your internal social
