Organizational behavior, organizational culture, and leadership are integral parts to every business and can be found at every level within an organization. The influence each as on the success or failure of an organization is undeniable. Due to their important influences on organizations, it would be wise to examine their influences on each other. While connections between organizational behavior and culture may be intuitive, this short paper will determine how leadership applies to organizational behavior. Proof that leadership is a fundamental part of organizational behavior can be found by examining the relationship they share with organizational culture, leadership on fundamental level, and the trait theory approach to leadership.
Organizational culture is a set of shared values and beliefs that underlie a company’s identity, and influence our behavior at work (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013). By influencing our behavior, organizational culture can be a measure of organizational effectiveness. Furthermore, organizational culture can be learned through organizational socialization, thereby giving leaders the ability to influence organizational culture, which essentially influences organizational behavior. “Leadership is a relationship between those that inspire to lead and those that choose to follow” (Kouzes, James, Posner, & Barry, 2003, p. 2).
