The week one assignment, Part 2: Survey Reflection asks us to reflect on the responses to the survey on the scores of the perception of the importance of the principal standards. For my part of the survey, it is easy for me to relay my responses and give the reasoning’s for I gave it the rating that I chose to give. As far as the frequency of observation of my current principal the ratings were harder to give. My current principal is a very ethical, hard-working, and treats all stakeholders with fairness. He is young in the education field with only 11 years’ experience and only four of those with a principal certification. I see him working very hard, but he is still learning how to manage his time as an administrator. Because of this, I do …show more content…
As I was talking with my own campus mentor this week, he told me that he is constantly adding to and updating the campus improvement plan. Under Competency 002 – Learner Centered Communication and Collaboration Supporting Campus Culture the only one that I rated as slightly important was number five. Number five states respond to pertinent political, social, and economic issues in the internal and external environment. At this stage of my education, I do not see how an administrator being involved in the political, social, and economic issues is important to the administration of the school. I believe that is wise to be updated on all the political issues, but unless I am shown different I do not know how this relates to the administration of the school. When looking at Competency 003 – Learner Centered Integrity and Ethics of Leadership I believe that as an administrator you should have the highest ethics in all areas as administrator .It is extremely important that the ethics are maintained on and off the campus. When looking at Competency 005-Learner Centered Instructional Leadership and Management my perception of importance has a rating there was either very important or somewhat important. All of those years I have been in the classroom. Because of this, I do not have the opportunity to interact with the principal on a daily basis except for my classroom duties. It was very hard for me to answer many of the questions because I have never dealt with these issues before, but as time goes by I will come to know how to apply them

Todd Whitaker provides techniques for principals to evaluate their personal leadership style against highly effective principals in his book, What Great Principals Do Differently. Dr. Todd Whitaker states that this book is about what great principals do that sets them apart. Clarifying what the best leaders do, and then practicing it ourselves, can move us into their ranks (Whitaker, 2009). The goal of a great leader is to help teachers understand and improve their practices and to gauge the effectiveness of their instruction. Educational leadership is constructed with knowledge acquired from many sources, and self-evaluation and experience help solidify leadership.…

Ethics is the broad theme of ISLLC Standard 5. The activities related to this standard provided me with a means to reflect on my personal code of ethics, explore ethics from the perspective of a district official, and to hear others’ perspectives of ethics in the school organization. The first activity allowed me to interview Richard Stiverson, a school board member, regarding his code of ethics. The interview was insightful and did not veer far from what I consider to be ethical. With regard to this activity, I was able to grasp the notion that ethical behavior is paramount to building and maintaining trust in an organization.…

Session five was a big stepping stone for me, I believe I asked questions that guided her and properly validated her feelings, not to mention my powerful use of silence during the whole session. This reflection will shift gears from how I originally lay out my reflections. I usually express the goals I said I would work on and then share the progress I made during the succeeding session. However, I shared my uncertainty about where to take our session after the last one. I believe this doubt helped session five unfold the way it did.…

Currently the Belton High School offers a credit recovery class, where students who are struggling can take or retake courses online. While the credit recovery program has shown to benefit some, its impact is not adequate. An alternative education program would be necessary for all K-12 students in the Belton School District. Alternative education is more than just sitting a student behind a computer.…

The first skill that was used to engage my client was using an open ended question at the beginning of my interview. According to Hohman (2002), “open-ended questions are those that have a variety of possible answers and do not limit the client” (p.20) using this strategy allows the client to explore his own thoughts and it encourages the client to do most of the talking. I started my conversation with my client by asking a simple open question for example “how was his day going ?” later I saw myself asking deeper questions such as “You mention that your brother is an alcoholic, how is your relationship with your brother?” this allowed me to listen to my client story in his own words and to keep the interviewing flowing.…
