Hamric, Hanson, Tracy, and O’Grady (2014) mentioned that the health care delivery system in the U.S is hugely influenced by the financial costs. When I worked at the Sanford Medical Center, the one organizational change that I witnessed was that the management decided to increase the nurse-patient ratio to reduce the financial costs. The new ratio also affected patients who were admitted in the hospital. The quality of nursing care declined after the implementation of the new ratio. I do not have the data, but I witnessed that the nurses were behind their tasks such as medication administration, and daily cares. The nurses were not able to monitor their patient and within few week there was increased in number of falls in our unit.

I feel the basic skill we will need is to identify a problem in an organization and solving that problem. The implementation of new strategies or ideas to solve problem demand changes. Thus, it is important to assess other’s emotion and readiness to make an effective decision for an organization. Northouse (2015) mentioned that a leader who is socially perceptive is fully aware of others’ reactions to any changes that occurs in an organization. Newhouse (2010) mentioned about different instruments such as Context Assessment Instrument, Alberta Context Tool, and Organizational Readiness to Change Assessment. Further, Newhouse (2010) explained that these tools are useful in assessing readiness of team members prior to the implementation of changes.
