1. What factors do you think make some organizations ineffective at managing emotion?

According to the case, organizations are always hard to manage emotion effective. From my prospective, there might be three main reasons, emotional individual differences, lack of contact between organizations and their employees, and organization culture, all bringing about this situation.

First of all, different people have different personalities. It is hard for an organization to publish a policy or to make a solution, which could satisfy all employees. In a long-term perspective, this strategic display still bring about harm to employees, unless some certain employees can control their emotion forever and never affect their work performances.

Moreover, it is also bad for the organization with a cold, unproductive work environment with anger and hatred emotion. Thus, the organization should make a more comfortable environment for employees to let them feel safe and high job satisfaction so that their employees will no longer use the strategy of silence to protect themselves.

Consequently, covering employees’ true emotions at work may cause more problems than it solves.

3. Have you ever worked where emotions were used as part of management style? Describe the advantages and disadvantages of this approach in your experience.

I worked in an engineering company in China as an internship for two months. Maybe it is not a long time, but I still have some experience about the emotion management in this company.

Although this company does not take some specific measures to manage emotions of employees, its policy and enterprise culture will help the emotion management. For example, if an employee gets sick, the manager may not only give enough time for healing, but also go to see his condition in the hospital or home, sent a warm and caring. Therefore, the company is like a big family, every employee in it feels
