Essay On Leadership Reflection

Through the years I have being studying at ECU in the Business program, I have been exposed to the different terms and key concepts of leadership. I actually have assumed leadership positions when working on group projects and special assignments that had to include other students in my class. Nevertheless, after taking the Leadership Capstone class I have to say that it was very beneficial to me. First it brought the opportunity to refresh on leadership terms that I had been exposed to before. Second, as we discussed the skills of a leader and the different presenters told us about their own experiences and which, in their opinion were the attributes of a leader, and what a leader do and don’t do, I was reminded of my group projects and the …show more content…
The professor assigned 10 people per group, and my group was the worst, and very negative. I had solid experience working with teams and also with difficult teams, for that reason I decided to be proactive and initiate the communication path the faster way as possible. I called a kick off meeting to break the ice, and showed the project description, scope and a high level milestones list. Next, I told the team that we needed to define a project organization and determine each person’s responsibility. During the meeting nobody wanted the leader position, just wanted to do a task. I decided to take the challenge position, and established some rules to help us to be more committed with the project. After multiple meetings, we had long days working in the analysis and design, and creating a prototype, analysis, design and complete the project documentation. Finally, after working together one full semester, we completed the project plan successfully and all the class requirements. Our final project got an A. This example shows clearly that we need to understand the project complexity, the people and also considering their backgrounds, beliefs, and interests to have a successful
