Have you ever heard of the saying, you are what you eat? This statement, by the second, is becoming truer. Most people do not think about what they eat until it is too late. Genetically modified organisms were created to improve our life. However, they are associated with various health risks and environmental issues, which stops them from actually being beneficial to our life. Therefore, genetically modified organisms need to be banned or labeled so that the Americans can choose whether they want to purchase them or not.

Corn is also a staple for animal feed, so most US-grown meat is raised on a diet of genetically modified grain as well. Genetically modified organism can harm the environment. Genetically modified crops and herbicides can harm different things such as: birds, amphibians, insects, soil organisms and marine ecosystems. Using GM seeds also reduces the amount and frequency of herbicides and pesticides that must be applied, which not only brings cost savings but is better for the environment. Future advances in GM technologies, such as the development of drought-resistant plant varieties, could have an even bigger positive impact. Today more than fourteen million farmers in twenty-five countries produce GM crop” (Weeks). This is not the only way to produce more for less in a small amount of time. Therefore, we have to support the farmers who do not use the harmful toxins to alter their crops. So that means that we need to buy stuff that is grown from farmers and not the products from the store that is name brand.
