The Oregon Ducks have been the greatest powerhouse and go to college school to beat for over the past five years. With a new offensive coach brought in during their 2007 season (Chip Kelly) Oregon's potent spread offense attack was an unstoppable force, and college teams had never seen anything like it. The Ducks would lead their conference (Pac-12) in scoring (38.15 points per game) (ESPN, 2011) and would also set several new school records for offensive yards and become the highest scoring team in their division. What defines a great team over any other team? Is it their overall wins, the total yards per game they achieve, or the points spread that they hold their opponents too. The truth is neither; coaches select who they want playing on their teams each year, on average it takes a new coach about three years to create their idea of what type of team they want to build. The first year as a coach, they still have many players from the previous year and from the old coaches team, the second year is where they're learning and developing plans for what they have and what they still need. That third year is where they have refined most of their skills and the players are used to the plays and have matured enough to stay discipline to them. So what defines a great team? In all reality everything listed above and much more, you can not characterize a great team based on one season or each player or their coach, but you can characterize a great team based off of several season of not only being one of the best college in your division but one of the best college teams in the …show more content…
Winning 13 games defeating the defending champions Florida State Seminoles 59 -20 and watching Oregon's quarterback Marcus Mariota passed for over 4,454 total yards and rushed for over 770, Royce Freeman their Defensive back would rush for over 1,365 yards and the Ducks would average 45.4 points per game and score on over 86% of red zone possessions (Pac-12, 2014). These feats in itself would lead Oregon's quarterback Marcus Mariota to receive the Heisman Trophy, the first Heisman trophy awarded to the University of Oregon and claim several players for the NFL. Since the change of offensive coach is 2007 and for the next seven years, the Oregon Ducks have been one of the highlighted teams see play college football. Every play is carefully calculated for the each player and together they create team wins and set new school records and change the way college football is played, from their no-huddle offense to deep passes and positive yards carried, there was no stopping these young men from unlocking and achieving their unlimited
