Ordos (which means “numerous palaces” in Mongolian) is located in the southwest of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is close to the ancient Great Wall in its south and is surrounded by the Yellow River to its west, north and east. Ordos borders with the provinces of Shanxi, Shaanxi and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It covers an area of 87,000 square kilometers, with 7 banners and 2 districts, and a total population of 2.0553 million, which consists of 190,000 Mongolians. Ordos is an ethnic-minority area with Mongolian ethnic as its main body and the Han making up the majority of the population.
