Oral history Is the persons knowledge of what happened in the past. This can be done from a story passed on through generations or from first hand knowledge. It is used as a form of history but is not the most accurate source. This is because many people do not have photographic memory and can have mistaken events because they forget key pieces of the story. Oral history helps historians because many of them want to know what being a certain type of person such as an immigrant was like during a specific time and place. A secondary source is anything that was created after the time being researched. One example of this would be a biography. A biography is an example of this because it was written after the time being researched by someone who did not experience the events but is writing about it. A second example would be textbooks. This is because it was created after the fact. It also is recollecting about a time period it studied and not experienced therefore it would not be first hand. A third example of this would be an article that wrote about a certain topic or idea it did not experience. A primary document can change a person’s historical interpretation by enlightens them upon the background of an event in history that could often be left out of secondary documents that are meant to inform the reader upon a part of history. As example of this is Jefferson's Secret Message to Congress Regarding the Lewis & Clark Expedition (1803) this primary document enlightens a person on the outturn that Jefferson was attempting to receive from Lewis and Clarks expedition to the western side of America. However the textbook fails to mission Jefferson’s alternative for the expedition. Throughout my career as a student, I never gave much thought as thought as to what was the meaning of history. To me it was the study of past events, the boring ones, the gruesome ones, and the embarrassing ones, but after doing some readings assigned to our class, I think I came up with my own personal definition of history. History is the study of things that happen in the past, the previous day, that present day that could matter tomorrow. To me history is everyday that you live, somewhere in the world, there is history being made, it may not be noteworthy but there is history there.…

In conclusion, primary source is more reliable to use than the secondary source for information. As the poem “Paul Revere’s Ride” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is a secondary source that has time and fact difference with the primary source, letter written by Paul Revere, and a descriptive poem that can exaggerate and distort the facts, it is not a reliable source to use when compared to the writing of the man who was actually…

The European settlers of North America irreversibly changed the way Native Americans lived. These settlers brought different ideologies, convictions, religion and diseases, to the Indigenous peoples. There were frequent clashes between the settlers and the Natives over land rights and usage, religious and cultural differences, and, especially, broken treaties (Calloway 3). Some tribes embraced the new ideas and began to incorporate them into their own culture, while other tribes rejected them entirely (Calloway 4). It is not possible to understand the history of the United States without acknowledging the “very long history, cultural diversity, and enduring presence of America’s indigenous peoples (Calloway iii).…

The United States of America was developed and grew over the course of centuries. The first settlers of the land built colonies and developed the land agriculturally. After the land of the Mississippi was bought by the United States in 1803, a surge of expansion was sent westward. The newly owned land however did not act as boundary to the American frontier, the country continued to move westward, cultivating the land and forming towns that have evolved into metropolises along the west most part of the continent. The means in which this land we call America became property of the United States however was often violent and rarely contested by the majority.…

In my opinion, social sciences help to fill in the unanswered questions about why an event in history might have occurred. Anthropology studies different societies/cultures and how they have developed over time, sociology studies human society, and political science studies governments; all of these require studying the past, but they also focus on different branches of history. These studies also include the “little things” that affected societies that were not necessarily included in a history class. Social sciences can also be studied presently because they focus more on human interactions, whereas history is more difficult to study in the present, as it is difficult for courses and books to keep up with everything today; the present seems especially chaotic at this point in time. Also we do not know the outcomes and effects of current events on the world, though we can reason about the human motivations and reasoning for the current events.…

In other words secondary sources recap a past event and can give their own opinion on the subject. A very good example of a secondary source is textbooks, they display and write about primary sources. Biographies are also an example of a secondary source because they are books written about other people and not written by the people themselves. We also write our very own primary sources every time that we produce a paper for school. Secondary sources can help an audience alter their view of events, but they can also help you understand past historical events in a much simpler more modern…

There are recorded events that occurred in the past in order to clarify history, but pre-history cannot be clarified due to non-availability of recording facilities in the pre-historic period. Prehistory is the time period before the era of recorded history or when there’s no writing system yet while history wholly depends on written records. [1] Prehistory ended the time writing systems were invented while history started when writing systems were invented and what happens now will be considered history a moment after. Prehistoric studies are based on the remains of the past civilizations like artifacts, relics and fossils and the data were usually scientifically obtained. While history base data mainly again, on written records.…
