Fairness refers to fair treatment and judging of a persons’ behavior by the same standards. The concept of justice and being fair focuses on protecting consumers across the board. Gaberson, Orermann & Shellenbarger (2015) posits that instructors working in the various educational setting whether academia or clinical needs to evaluate each students’ performance by the same ethical standards to prevent biases and promote fairness. The educator must demonstrate appropriate behavior when judging a student academic or clinical work and put all barriers aside to promote fairness to the student. According to Bramhall (2014), effective communication is central to driving compassionate nursing care and focuses on core communication skill. One ethical issue I have encountered in the educational system is the lack of adequate communication among healthcare providers and even educators. Educators or nurses who fail to communicate with their counterpart can significantly affect patient care and a student’s academic performance. Lack of communication creates an ethical dilemma because medical errors can occur and student grades or clinical evaluation can be affected. For example, a nurse educator who failed to provide students clear instructions on upcoming examination is setting the student up for failure.
