The Pros And Consequences Of Sodomy

Although in America, we see oral and anal sex as common sexual practices, in various countries theses types of activities are see as taboo and usually considered sodomy. Sodomy is defined as the “ oral or anal intercourse between human beings, or any sexual relations between humans and an animal” (legal-dicionary.com) , which are criminally punishable because they are seen as unnatural. While in the United States, laws against oral and anal sex were repealed by the Supreme Court in 2003, there are still laws in most of the states that consider beastelity a crime. However, in Saudi Arabia, there are laws that forbid citizens of partaking in any type of sodomy , but if they do the consequences are usually very dire. Since most laws are based on religious context, laws against sodomy are intertwined with homosexuality so the charges for both can become can become quite complex. In 1991 , Iran , as most countries , associate sodomy with “homosexual” acts, even though oral and anal sex can be done between a female and a male. If the two “sodomites” repent then they get 99 lashes and a prison sentence. However , if they do not admit to their crimes they can be sentenced to death which is usually by public hangings but can also be death by stoning. Some people have been tried for sodomy even though they have not committed acts of sodomy , but it is used as a mechanism for discriminating and punishing homosexuals. Sodomy when linked with adultery poses dire consequences for the individual at hand because both acts are punishable by execution. But also, any sexual activity outside of marriage is illegal, which is why punishment and charges can become complex. Since sodomy is associated with homosexuality, there are separate punishments for men and women. If sodomy occurs between two men , the man that “plays the active role” is sentenced to only 100 lashes, as opposed to the man that “plays the passive role” who faces death ( theguardian.com). On the other hand, the punishment for sodomy between two women are 100 lashes, and the “death penalty if …show more content…
While both countries have predominately strict laws against bestiality , except for some states that allow it, the countries differ extremely when it come to oral and anal sex. In America as long as sexual activities are occurring in private areas and are consensual, there is no violation of law because fourth amendment gives us the right to privacy. On the contrary, in Iran a sexual act out of wedlock whether it be consensual or not , is illegal. Therefore creating a law that completely discriminates against homosexuals because any relations that they might have with the same sex , have multiple ways of being punished. In the United States, in more recent decades anal and oral sex have become more popular forms of pleasure , thus straying away from the idea of these sexual acts as being only associated with homosexuals. However , in Iran since marriage is not allowed between homosexuals and individuals are not able to have sex out of wedlock, this forces a whole sector of people to hide their identity or risk flogging and death. The consequences for oral and anal sex in Iran is drastically different , which is relevant in sociological context because it expresses how accepting we are as a society in America , there are less things that are taboo. I struggled with Michael Warner’s “New English Sodom.” It was an interesting read, but it was hard to follow at several point, but the big takeaway that I got from it, is that, Sodom had not always had the sexual connotations that it has today, but rather that it was often employed in the rhetoric of collective judgement or punishment. England was compared to Sodom by Puritans who later moved to the United States, because they were both seen as degenerate and in need of condemnation and punishment. I found this incredibly interesting because Sodom is not alluded to for these purposes today, at least in my experience. Sodom and sodomy, tend to have legal air to them (as well as religious, of course), because of anti-sodomy laws.…

Holden himself is attracted to Mrs. Morrow, as seen through his personal observations of the woman. He said, "she was very good looking" (Salinger, 54) and "had quite a lot of sex appeal" (Salinger, 56).…

Sex surrogacy is seen as a highly controversial form of sex therapy. There have been claims made against it claiming that it is too similar to prostitution, and therefore should be considered illegitimate because it is perceived as being immoral. It has also been put into question because many think that the intimacy shared in this process can become problematic for those involved because they may develop feelings that can be damaging in the long run. Overall, I think that sex surrogacy is a questionable practice. I do not necessarily believe that it should be illegal, but I do not believe that it should be widely practiced either.…
