Optometrist Research Paper

Do you like being blind? I know that I do not find it enjoyable. This is the reason why I decided that I wanted to become an optometrist. Ever since I starting wearing glasses in the fourth grade, my life has become a little more difficult without them. So now, I have decided that I will help others with the same problem. It does not hurt that with more technology coming out, and kids playing on them more that the kids’ eyes will worsen. 1. When I become an optometrist, my job will be to help others with their eyes. 3. I would have to check the eyes to see if they have any diseases or disorders. Also, I would prescribe contacts and eyeglasses so that the patient could see more clearly. The work may become tiring, and the patients can sometimes be difficult to work with. 11. However, it would all be worth it knowing that I helped them see well. I would also be making a good amount of money that I could support my family with. In the end, I learned that being an optometrist will be beneficial for my future.

The starting wage for a fresh out of college optometrist will most likely be around $76,720 a year, or $36.88 per hour. As they grow and become more experienced with being an optometrist, the annual wage will increase until it reaches $132,100 or about $63.51 an hour (Optometry). When I start making that much money, I will be able to pay off my student loans a little bit quicker than some of the other occupations in the world. This means that I can be happier due to the fact that I do not like borrowing or owing other people money. 16. Scientists project that the employment rate for optometrists is around 24% and still rising (Bureau). However, because more people can get the glasses and contacts that they need online, optometry may take a major blow making more people lose their jobs.
