If people are optimistic and look for the good in everything, chances are they will get the good in everything, because they chose the ignore the bad. People who choose to see the negative side of things, or are pessimistic, tend to receive the negative aspects or side of things. Taylor Adams is not only someone who is in the learning community, but is someone I have grown really close with over the past two months. At the beginning of the school year, Taylor’s first impression of me is that I was very weird and too much. “I just thought you have a huge personality and I did not think I was going to mesh well with you at all”; that is what Taylor said when I asked her about her first impression of me. Since Taylor could not quite understand me, it would only be fitting for me to choose her to interview. Taylor’s five signature themes include: developer, positivity, adaptability, woo, and empathy; I decided to only focus on her empathy and positivity themes.…

One thing I think that gets overlooked when it comes to starting a business- or what I should say is not stressed enough- is the power of affirmation. And no affirmation is not some magic trick that turns dreams into reality, rather a conditioning device used to retrain your subconscious brain to expand enough to receive your manifestation. Before I go any further, I would like to explain what affirmation means, according to Google, the action or process of affirming something or being affirmed; it's synonymous with a declaration, a statement, or a proclamation. So affirmation isn't forcing you to believe in your goals, rather it's the acceptance that what you think is the present reality.…

Over this past year I learned that my negative beliefs I had about myself regarding my potential were the cause of my lack of success in my school work. When I first did academic decathlon last summer I kept telling myself that I wasn’t capable of being as great as the top students in the class. This year I went in with a different attitude, therefore proving to myself that there was nothing wrong with my brain, and I can in fact be successful with hard work and dedication. Reducing my optimism bias would be beneficial to me in this scenario because it would keep me grounded and push me to study even when I excel on an exam. If I were to overlook the optimism bias, I could potentially harm myself because I would be overlooking the fact that…

Through maintaining a positive attitude, “some studies show that personality traits such as optimism and pessimism can affect many areas of your health and well-being” (Mayo Clinic Staff). A positive attitude helps reduce stress and improve stress management, which can increase your lifespan and build up immune systems. In addition to building up a physical immune system, optimism also fortifies an emotional immune system. For example, “Consciously cultivating an attitude of gratitude builds up a sort of psychological immune system that can cushion us when we fall. There is scientific evidence that grateful people are more resilient to stress” (Emmons) as they are able to build a barrier that keeps out the negativity, just like a physical immune system.…

If I thought negatively all the time, then the outcome of me being a happy person in the future is slim. If I think positive now, then I will create a habit of looking at things positively which will benefit me when I reach difficult situations in the future. The outcome of things are based on how a person approaches the task, for example if I were to take a test and I think that I am going to do horrible, then I will not do well. However, if I have a positive mindset and believe that I can do well, then I am most likely going to do better compared to the situation where I’m thinking negatively. Optimism is the basis for leading a successful life, a person can only be successful both mentally and physically if they have a positive outlook on the…
