In “The North Star” lyrics the authors says, “don’t let them tell you What you’ve always known It’s the North Star that’s the big one And it’s gonna lead you home” (Elton/Taupin). In the lyrics, the star is being used as a sign that can guide a person out of a dilemma. The Scorpion's heart may either turn into a black hole (which many describe our hearts to be like) or a new star.…

In Javert’s eyes, the world can be divided into two parts, one for innocence with everything is in order and one for guilt without any existence of order. Mediocre metaphors aside, The Name of the Star is a well-developed novel through Johnson’s use of beautiful descriptions and believable dialogue. The novel is a part contemporary, part paranormal thriller, marked by two different tones throughout. Johnson’s novel, The Name of the Star, demonstrates her contemporary and stylistic approach while also dealing with the theme of adapting to drastically different changes in life, by allowing Aurora, the protagonist, to undergo…

The effective use of astronomy enables the calculation of which day it is, the time of day, and how one can navigate from place to place. The observations of ancient astronomers over 5000 years ago led to the tracking of celestial bodies that have aided in the creation of both the lunar and solar calendars.
