Hospitals across the globe all have the common objective of improving the health of individuals located within or beyond its local community. Along with their common objective comes common backgrounds, problems, and solutions to organizational challenges. In this particular paper we will be discussing in detail the organizational background, problems, and solutions of Optimal Care Hospital.
Located in central Florida spanning in different locations from Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa, Optimal Care Hospital has been serving its community for more than 75 years. These challenges included managerial problems such as staffing, planning, managing change, and controlling performance. Staffing is the processing of hiring and retaining individuals to fulfill a particular job function or role. OCH had developed staffing issues that resulted in a shortage of diagnostic medical sonographers and nurses. This shortage resulted in delayed ultrasound appointments with pregnant women to monitor the babies growth and health. This also caused a delay in providing analyzed images for physicians to review. Staffing issues for nurses resulted in a shortage in times where patient demands were highest. This required nurses to take on multiple patients per shift thus decreasing the quality of care for each patient. Optimal Care hospital developed this challenge by not having a developed staffing process. Without a staffing process this also caused the organization to incur a significant amount of expenses and unnecessary time when looking to fulfill open sonography and nursing …show more content…
In to order fix this problem, nurses and physicians were required to follow up with patients to discuss the post-surgery recovery process. It is important that patients are thoroughly informed about their current condition to become independent once released. Patients were also taught self-care while at home and general health tips such as hygiene and diet. Before discharge, each patient was provided with a handout that contained a summary of what was discussed and contact information for any questions.
