I believe what Oprah is attempting to convey to people is that we often times perceive events in our lives as occurring due to luck, a concept we use when things happen in our lives that either, inspire happiness or produce sadness.
Often times people use luck as a means of justifying the events that have happened to them causing them to arrive at their current situation. The most commonly viewed use of luck is a coin toss, usually used to determine the outcome of a yes or no question. While the coin is in the air the outcome is undetermined, we gain optimism that the result will be in our favor. Once the coin has landed, we make a judgement based on the results. Yay! - Luck was in my favor; No! - Such bad luck.
Does a homeless person believe that if his luck had changed at some point he would be living lavishly in a mansion of his greatest desires and eating plentiful meals with groups of friends, driving expensive cars and attending black-tie events at prestigious events?
