Oprah Winfrey “The biggest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams”- Oprah Winfrey. Oprah Winfrey was born in the rural town of Kosciusko, Mississippi, US, on January 29th, 1976. Her mother, Vernita Lee had Oprah when she was a young teenager. Oprah grew up with no father, and no financial support, as a young girl she even got teased for wearing a dress to school that was made out of a potato sack. At an early age Oprah started showing potential, she taught herself to read at the young age of two, and even practiced public speaking at the age of five in front of her family. A turning point showed itself at age twelve… Oprah was sent to Nashville, where she began to feel safe and at home. In September 1985 the distributor, King World, bought the syndication rights, to air the program in one hundred thirty-eight cities, which was and still is a record for a first time syndication. That year alone Oprah drew 31% more viewers than her biggest competing show, and carried the top ten markets in the United States. Oprah’s next success came in 1986 when she received a special award from the Chicago Academy for the Arts for unique contributions to the city's artistic community, and was named Woman of Achievement by the National Organization of Women. The Oprah Winfrey Show won several Emmys for Best Talk Show, and Winfrey was also honored as Best Talk Show Host. Through Oprah’s ongoing career she has had countless success, including best selling books, and co-owning Weight Watchers. Winfrey first invested $43 million dollars into Weight Watchers to show people that eating healthy, and getting into shape, isn’t impossible. She has spread her message of self love across the world, with Weight Watchers now being over a $500 million
