Oprah was the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille at the 2018 Golden Globes in her speech she talked about sexual abuse and how it is seen way to often and even in successful people. Oprah says, “So I want tonight to express gratitude to all the women who have endured years of abuse and assault because they, like my mother, had children to feed and bills to pay and dreams to pursue...They are domestic workers... They are working in factories and they work in restaurants... and engineering and medicine and science. They’re part of the world of tech and politics and business. They’re our athletes in the Olympics and they’re our soldiers in the military”. This quote shows how there are so many people with different professions who endure sexual abuse, and Oprah brings it up in her speech because she expressed gratitude to those who were harmed. The main goal for Oprah’s show was to inform her viewers of what is going on in the world. Marcia Nelson writes, “Her emphasis is on providing viewers with information and thereby increasing their awareness, an impetus to leading a more fulfilling life”. Oprah had a show that had millions of viewers everyday, she knew she had a outlet to reach out to the public and that’s exactly what she did. Oprah provided them with information and made them aware of what was going on in the world. This had a lasting affect of the people’s lives who watched.
