Oprah Gail Winfrey Research Paper

Oprah Gail Winfrey was born to Vernita Lee and Vernon Lee on an isolated farm in Kosciusko, Mississippi, on January 29, 1954 (Lutz). Winfrey's unmarried parents separated soon after she was born and left her in the care of her maternal grandmother, who lived on a farm (Annette and Dehanke). As a child, Winfrey entertained herself by play-acting in front of an audience of farm animals. Under the strict guidance of her grandmother, she learned to read at two and a half years old, and she still recalls the positive reception she received when she recited Bible verses at her grandmother’s church. By the time she was six, she was shuttled back and forth from her grandmother to her mother, then to her father(Winfrey). Although Oprah is now viewed …show more content…

Not knowing who to turn to Oprah held herself accountable for what was happening and had no idea how to cope with her sufferings. At the age of nineteen Oprah started to turn her life around and adjusted her main focus on education(Mair). She buried all her pain and self-doubts in books. Education became one of the things that had saved her from her traumatized experience. Winfrey begins to discover herself and what her passionate is as she begun to seek her early career. She gained strength and became more determined after her long years of

I do my best to not judge a political figure based on their party affiliation. My dislike of Betsy DeVos has nothing to do with her party preferences; it has everything to do with her political opinions and experiences. As someone raised by two public school teachers and educated on how our school systems work, this woman's policies make me nervous. I have yet to see any piece of information that could possibly change my mind.…

As such, Hillary losing the election is not necessarily a result of America’s distaste for her, but rather America’s refusal to move forward as a nation. To the uneducated or older part of white America, the concept that immigrants and LGBTQ+ individuals should be considered equal to them under the law is too novel of an idea to risk a Clinton presidency, regardless of her experience in the field. The idea that women should have sole right to their bodies is too ridiculous of a concept that this specific demographic chose to vote for an inexperienced and volatile individual rather than risk voting for a woman who had dedicated her entire life to politics and the betterment of our nation. However, if one chooses to analyze the extrinsic factors surrounding Clinton’s defeat (public’s view of her authenticity, sexism, xenophobia), it is only fair to consider the intrinsic factors that may have contributed to her landslide loss to Trump.…

Ellen DeGeneres has a mature, disciplined, serious attitude toward life which colors everything she does. Caution and realism are her virtues though Ellen limits herself at times by being too careful, shy, or fearful, and not believing in herself enough or being assertive when necessary. Others find Ellen DeGeneres difficult to get to know intimately, as DeGeneres tends to distance herself from them or to put forth a rather stern, "adult" face to the world. Because of her inner reserve and basic shyness, Ellen DeGeneres appears to lack adaptability and is a bit inhibited in dealing with other people. Her approach is somewhat serious and it is difficult for Ellen to face…

First and foremost, it was important for me to realize that because Oprah was a double minority, a black woman, she had it more difficult than others. This made me feel a deeper connection to her considering I am also a black woman who faces similar struggles of being looked down upon, especially because of my race. I was one of the few black students that attended my middle school and it always made me feel awkward and self-conscious about who I was, inside and out. To be in television, where white men traditionally dominate, she showed me that no matter who I am around, I can still be who I am while also being the most successful.…
