Schooling is a source for freedom and for oppression. I believe that students can use schooling, apply themselves and use those efforts to free themselves from preset limits within their lives. I also feel that schooling can be a source of oppression. Students who do not have support to help them navigate through schooling can be repressed by the institution. With that responsibility, the role of the teacher within this structure has become paramount to the type of citizen-produced by the school system. In some ways, the teacher serves as a middleman between the higher-ups that govern the school system and the students in a transmission process, but they also have the ability to transform the ways in which students internalize normative ideologies. It is for the latter reason, in large part, that I have the desire to become an educator. Prior to the start of this course, I saw the teacher as a…

In the article titled, “Systems of Oppression”, the author Mark Lee Robinson clearly illustrates how the system of oppression and its power hurt we human beings through education and daily interaction. Perhaps, this power, as an educational tool that guides teenagers, is detrimental to human developments in society. Specifically, Robinson suggests that “there are women who teach their sons the lessons of patriarchy.” One may consider Robinson is stating some women are oppressed by those who “give themselves the right to be better than someone else.” Nevertheless, they are still teaching their children that certain groups have more privileges over other ones.…

Benjamin Barber delves deeper into the problem in his article “America Skips School.” Barber explains exactly how American children have become intellectually inferior and supplies ideas to fix the situation.…

Institution is a society or organization founded for a religious, educational, social, or similar purpose. For my institution I have chosen school, more specifically high school. High school was where I stepped foot in the adult world, where I had to network with new people as well as prepare myself to get into a good college. High-school was where most shape who they are and who they become afterwards. Although high-school prepares you for college and the “real world”, there was a lot of oppression to certain students and family class.…

In 2014, seven percent of males ages 16 to 24 were high school dropouts, compared with six percent of females. Although males comprise roughly half of the population in this age group, they make up 55 percent of the dropouts.…

This will allow parents to send their children to any school they choose to. Right now students who attend a public school in New Jersey are not able to this.…

People learn to hate from young age , and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite” (Mandela). The act of racism and inequality within the school system can be dated back to 1896 with the Plessy V.
