The movie The Lin Family Shop (1959) was the embodiment of Chinese Communist Party (CCP) propaganda, it had all the elements and motifs that Mao would have wanted to be portrayed about the CCP at the time of the film’s release. However, due to the traditional style and instruments, Mao may have found that the music was influenced by the feudal system and suggested nostalgia to a backwards time period. Overall, musically, Mao most likely would have found the song choices to have been unfavorable, possibly even the choice to have music featured within the film at all would be considered anti-communist. If The Lin Family Shop had been examined during the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution (GPCR), the Gang of Four would have most likely initiated the halting of the film’s distribution for reactionary
