Oppression In Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis

Without a doubt, violence caused by oppression is everywhere. Any time you turn on the news killing, massacres, many injured, war --headlines the story. Somewhere, a country--a person, is defending the injustice that's happening around them or directly at towards them. However, violently defending themselves against oppression doesn't help the problem-- it only adds to it. Oppression will never end unless something is said or done, but starting wars in attempt to stop it will only make matters worse. In some cases, fighting -- self defense is understandable, when you physically have to protect yourself from an assailment. Yet, that's pretty much it. From a young age, you're told to use your words rather than your actions --or putting your little brother in a headlock. For the most part, it almost always works . So, why is using our word instead of our fist and guns, so difficult to do so know? Countries, such as Iran, keep women/girls suppressed by limiting their rights, as well as, forcing them to cover their bodies from head-to-toe …show more content…
During the time, oppression started to peak for women in Iran. “They gave this to my son at school. They told the boys that if they went to war and were lucky enough to die this, key would get them into heaven.” Not only where the girl's affected, the boys were as well. Boys, at the age they would start high school, were sent into war --created by men, because of oppression.
