“The permanent, violent, and personal domination of natally alienated and generally dishonors persons,” albeit, a slavery is a synonym for oppression. Iris Marion Young, in his study states that there are at least five forms of oppression, and the first being exploitation which is the act of using individuals labors to produce profit, and not compensating them fairly. The second is marginalization, which deals with the idea of powerlessness linked to Marx’s theory of socialism. The third is powerlessness that creates what Freire calls a Culture of Silence. The fourth are Cultural Imperialism that deals with taking the art, music, and literature of the ruling class, and establishing it as the norm. The fifth are Violence, and are probably the most obvious, and visible form of oppression. Members of some groups live with the knowledge that they must fear random, unprovoked attacks on their persons or property.
