Most student are able to cope with the stress and power through it and get their work done. Others not so much. How the other student choose to deal with their stress varies from self harm to arming others.As sociology 101 states, "Most adults are used to dealing with an economy separated by a greater division of labor and status. " Meaning that those who were wealthy were able to gain control., differences in social classes by ethnicity and gender increase. Though the modern day economy this isn't happening as much, in school this is exactly what happens. Groups, clubs, and sororities are usually separated by gender, ethnicity, or social status. It used to be more the people who had money were in charge but, for schools its about what age or size they the student is. For example an older, bigger Junior would have more power and privileges than younger, weaker freshman. This system causes many children distraught throughout their years in school. And not knowing how to handle their feelings, they turned to violence. Either violence to themselves or others. As Katherine Newman states, "Shooting, in a school, is the last act in a very long drama in which all the other attempts to gain attention have failed. And sadly, shooting works," Some self-harmers, usually girls, expressed a need to hurt themselves because of the shame or disgust their peers make them feel. When they do this, their negative emotions worsen. Boys usually did this because of boredom, seeing these self-harm activities as fun, or to be accepted by a peer
