The Opportunistic View Opportunity presents itself in many different forms. It can be as obvious as a neon sign, or elusive as a minnow in murky water. Opportunity may present on its own, or it may require enormous effort to find. Either way, opportunity is an important concept because it is what drives society and economy. Opportunity, simply put, is the conditions that make something possible. This could be a career opportunity, a remarkable deal on a home, a new contact useful for networking purposes, or an investment in something overlooked. Generally, opportunity follows a trend of increased effort and risk equaling greater potential reward, or greater failure. On the other hand, decreased effort and risk is clearly safer, but not as likely to yield a high return. An example of this concept is the American stock market. A highly relevant quote to this subject is from The United States Declaration of Independence drafted by Thomas Jefferson stating, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” The pursuit of happiness is a phrase that essentially means opportunity for happiness, or simply opportunity. It is a right that all free men and women possess, and that right should not be wasted. And with a better understanding of the word opportunity, maybe people will realize that they have more power to reach their goals by working harder, and searching more accurately for the right opportunities.
