Without having a man to guide her, Ophelia becomes disoriented and hints visions of upcoming events through her words and actions. Before she dies, she stumbles over depressing words and sings a heartbreaking song. She sings, “No, no he is dead, go to thy death-bed, he will never come again” (4.5.192-194). Ophelia is not only discussing her father’s death, but also implies her own death as well. She will never see her father again and plans to accompany him in the afterlife. After she commits suicide, Hamlet and Laertes become heavily devastated that their sweet Ophelia suffered so much and they failed to protect her.
