Operational Environment Analysis

The intent of this brief is to help further understand the Operational Environment of England. After the brief, you will have a better understanding of some of the Operational Environment variables. There are eight variables, but this brief will only cover a few such as Military, Political, Physical Environment, and Social. By the end, you will have a basic knowledge of how the English Military operates, as well as, how the Military operates with the Government. You will also understand the Physical Environment, such as terrain and weather, as well as how the environment plays a role in how it affects the general population of England. They respond towards threats the same that we do. They have four branches, which include the Royal Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, and the Royal Marines, who fall into the Royal Navy branch. The Military size force is 176,810; each branch consists of 101,300 members of the Royal Army, 40,090 members of the Royal Air Force, 27,930 members of the Royal Navy, and 7,500 members of the Royal Marines. The English Military also has the Special Air Service or the SAS. The SAS is one of the most prestigious Special Forces groups with the hardest selection course in all militaries. The role of the SAS is Counterterrorism; gather intelligence, forward air control, behind-the-line sabotage, close protection, and training foreign militaries. The Defense Diplomacy of the English Military is in place to respond to any threats that could potentially affect European security, pose a threat to British interests, or to international security. Another mission is to respond to threats that are affecting NATO allies and with advanced warning, will deploy forces to aid in a counterattack to help defend. The British Military receives its funding through taxation of the people. From there the Prime Minister divides the budget to where the money will go and after the House of Lords and House of Commons approve the budget, the Queen then approves the budget. The capabilities of the British Military are also quite like the United States. The British have a vast Army to help defend and to support other countries, but their focus is the Air Force and Navy. They use the Air Force and Navy to defend their coasts. The capabilities are, but not limited to, artillery, tanks, surface to air and ground missiles, and a nuclear deterrent. The reasoning behind this is because England is a small
