1. Operation Torch

Operation Torch is a code name given to an allied operation of the invasion of North Africa, consisted of the France territories , mainly Algiers and Morocco. Historians had argued that Operation Torch and Patton’s role in it as one of the reason why the allies were able to push back the Axis out of Africa, mainly due to the fact of the importance of the operation itself. Operation Torch marks the first campaign in which there exists an Anglo-American cooperation; Winston Churchill himself had convinced Roosevelt to put the operation into plan. The Commander assigned to the operation is General Dwight Eisenhower and admiral position is assigned to Admiral Henry Kent Hewitt with Patton serving under him as Major General, Admiral Henry Kent is responsible of the safe landings of the allies and the naval battles and bombardment of the ports. Patton took command once the troops are ashore. The goal of the operation as described by Eisenhower “The object of the operations as a whole is to occupy French Morocco and Algeria with a view to the earliest possible subsequent occupation of Tunisia.” (Atkinson 22) The invasion consisted of two main

Three separate locations for the landings was selected, 1st task force will disembark on Fadala, 400m from Casablanca, the 2nd task force are stationed be north at port Lauyete while the third one is south of Casablanca1st at Safi. The whole invasion relied upon the Patton’s strategy of sandwiching the enemy around Casablanca, forcing the Viche Army to defend from all three sides.
