Vietnam was involved in a long war before the U.S was involved. It started with
the First Indochina War in Southeast Asia. The French Army was defeated by the
Vietminh Army at Dien Bien Phu. This led the U.S to assist the ARVN from the NVA
and VC Army. The army from NVA and the guerrilla fighters wanted to control of South
Vietnam no matter what it took. The incident that led to more U.S troops becoming
involved in the Vietnam War was an attack on the USS Maddox by NVA gunboat. The
