Marcus Luttrell once said “No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets or no matter how far you fall, you are never out of the fight”. From the personnel to the rescue mission all of the actions that the Seals showed was a sign of brotherhood for each other. The Navy Seals involved in Operation Redwing showed acts of heroism, bravery, and courage in their sacrifice for their country.
The personnel of Operation Redwing consisted of high military officers in the United States Navy Seals. Petty Officer Marcus Luttrell, Lieutenant Michael Murphy, Petty Officer Danny Dietz, and Petty Officer Matt Axelson were part of a four man elite SEAL team searching for Taliban leader Ahmad Shah on June 28, 2005 (Klein 1). The decision was letting the shepherds go. That decision eventually cost the lives of his three SEAL brothers (Sole Survivor 2). Operation Redwing was Luttrell’s worst nightmare and still is. The deaths of Danny , Mikey, and Axe gave him more chances of life even though he hated it (Seals 1).
“ The ‘Lone Survivor’ suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and physical after-effects” He also said in an interview “ I died on that mountain too” (Klein 4).
P.O. Marcus Luttrell in 2006 received the Navy Cross. Danny Dietz and Matt Axelson received the Navy Cross as well. LT. Michael Murphy received the Medal of honor for his brave and sacrificing action (Klein 4). Jeff Paterson a pilot who saved Luttrell and two years after the search and rescue mission. He received a call from Marcus saying “thank you” (Sole Survivor 6).
Conclusion: The Navy Seals and the Armed Forces in Operation Redwing sacrificed their lives to capture or kill a terrorist leader. Even though the mission was compromised and failed. These men did everything they could to stop the danger. Operation Redwing will go down in history as one of the bravest and heroic missions in the United States
