In September 1, 1939, the second world war started. It was between the Axis powers and the Allies. The allies consisted of India, the Soviet Union, Britain, France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, China and the United States of America. While the Axis powers consisted of Germany, Japan, and Italy. Both teams would continue to fight until September 2, 1945. The invasion of Sicily happened on July 1943, it was known as Operation Husky, it was very successful, although many of the Axis forces were able to avoid capture and escape to the mainland. Late July, Mussolini was designated as leader of the Italian government, which started to create peace with the allies. It was believed a quick invasion of Italy might trigger a faster Italian surrender
