Operation Hang Up Policy

The indicated police operation was constructed to refrain drivers from texting/distracted driving and to only focus only on the road ahead. Andrew M. Cuomo, the Governor of New York legislated that all local and state law enforcement agencies increase patrols and checkpoints. This contribution was made as a result of the high percentages of car accidents that occurred, due to the presence of distractions hindering the focus of most drivers in the state of New York. “Choice theory” the extent to engage in rational decisions has been a very influential element, as it contributed greatly towards the development of the “Operation Hang Up policy.” I’m convinced that this policy will deter drivers from distracted driving, as postulated in the article “Operation Hang Up” due to the fact that police officers in New York implemented tighter restrictions on phone usage while driving. Let the offender regret being distracted while driving by increasing the fines and include over forty hours of community service. As well as, suspending their licenses for an extensive period of time, depending on the persons driving history. In addition to making punishments stricter, I deem every car should have a Bluetooth device installed. For example, people who have a history of DUI’s should have to blow in an installed car breathalyzer in order for their car to turn on. Therefore, the same should apply to cell phones, your Bluetooth has to be turned on and connected/synced to your car before it starts. I visualize drivers concentrating much more on the road and having both hands on wheels instead of rambling through their phones.
