Operation Christmas Shoe Box

Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box was a great opportunity for me to share what little I have with families in need. I firmly believe that all children need Christmas and the opportunity to experience the spirit of Christmas…love. This is vital for families in need to realize that there are people in this world willing to give of their own time to ensure God’s love is extended to them during the holidays. With this thought in mind, I chose to fill two boxes but wished I could have done more. As I began shopping, I selected to fill a box for a girl and a boy from ages 2 to 4 years old. It was difficult to select just the right combination of items that would provide some necessities and toys but as I roamed the isles, the boxes became filled

Especially now, in a time that the world needs righteous deeds to balance the craziness that keeps escalating a bit everywhere, it’s comforting to focus our attention in virtuous projects done by benevolent people who dedicate their lives to help others in need. This idea gains further emphasis when the people who are benefitting from these efforts are children. Documentarian Marvin Blunte captures with a self-assertive sense of appreciation, the wonderful assistance and guidance given to the poor and abandoned children who reside at Children’s Village School, a 35-year institution located in a remote jungle of the Kanchanaburi province, Thailand. As an alternative to the public school system and the first democratic school in the country, it gives the opportunity to 150 underprivileged children to experience several tasks, from cooking to art making to cleaning, while learning the…

Benevolence It is Christmas morning, so you wake up and your is heart pumping with excitement to look under the Christmas tree for your presents. When you arrive your heart fills with much despair because you find nothing there. Unfortunately, this happens to kids all around the world, some of these kids may go to your school. Consequently, every year, as a tradition my grandmother gathers up all of her grandkids and we volunteer at the Salvation Army Intake Center encompassed with her church. At eight a.m. sharp we get out of the car to have the brisk air slap us in the face, we halfway jog and halfway run into the place, we meet hundreds of boxes as soon as we open the door.…

Something that motivated me to do this service was that I do this with my dad and my younger sister every year and we always have a good time doing this service since my dad likes making jokes and hiding on us when we are not looking and scare us. I have never been one to spring at opportunities that involved working with kids simply because I was disinterested. In the summer of 2015, my disinterest was turned into a passion when I met the children from Broadlawn. Broadlawn is a public housing community in my city and my church wanted to intercede and help their community. Our church decided that every Tuesday throughout the summer we would go out to Broadlawn to eat, talk, and play with the kids from the neighborhood. After some nagging from friends and family, I decided to tag along one Tuesday to help.…

Be the change you wish to see in the world; Mahatma Gandhi's words of wisdom still ring true to me in my everyday life. His words invoke me to look within myself and evaluate how my good deeds can somehow be powerful enough to change the world. Volunteering at Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls kindled a fire within me and made me realize that I will not tolerate being a bystander in the world; I must be proactive in order to see results. This center allowed me to see how simply packing, sorting, and shining shoes can help a young child's get to school easier, allow a young soccer play to sign up for their local team, or protect a child from walking on harsh terrain while trying to collect water. The reason why I volunteer is because I wish for the child's troubles to be nonexistent, I want to live in a world where people don’t have to worry about having a function pair of shoes.…

I think the theme to the story “The Christmas Hunt” by Borden Deal is about “knowing when you’re ready for something.” Christmas was coming and Tom wanted to join in on the Christmas Hunt that his dad and his friend’s do every year. There was evidence in the text about this and also evidence that his parents thought he wasn't ready; “‘I’m old enough to go on the Christmas hunt,’ I said. Incredibly. my father laughed.…
