A person or animal can use many different techniques to learn different behaviors but the two most common ways are operant conditioning and classical conditioning. Operant conditioning is a way of learning based on the consequences that arise in the environment as a result of the behavior that has just been completed. Usually there is a change in the behavior due to the consequences resulting from the behavior. On the other hand classical conditioning is a technique used to eventually pair a conditioned stimulus with a conditioned response. This end result requires the pairing of a neutral stimulus with an unconditioned stimulus, which leads to an unconditioned response. After pairing these two together the neutral …show more content…
This is an annoying behavior to me because I feel, as she is more involved in her social media than what we are actually discussing in person. I plan to use positive punishment in order to decrease the time she spends on her phone. The punishment I am going to give her is a tiny little pinch on the back of her forearm; a very sensitive area that will lead to a painful aftermath. I know this doesn’t sound very nice because I am pinching my friend but I know she doesn’t like this feeling and it will help reduce the amount of time she is spending on her phone. I am specifically going to use a fixed-interval schedule of positive punishment and will apply the pinch when I see her use her phone for more than two minutes at a time when we are together. I don’t think variable-interval would be much of a success when trying to decrease her behavior. The pinch would come after some random amount of time spent on her phone so therefore she could get lucky and spend five minutes on her phone without getting pinched and another time she could be on her phone for one minute and get pinched. Therefore I think using a fixed amount of time would do the best job of decreasing this annoying
