Conclusion Of Operant Conditioning

To change behavior many different techniques can be used. Operant conditioning is a technique that if effective in the learning process and changing behavior. B.F. Skinner proved this by experimenting with rats and pigeons. For instance, the rats learned to press the bar in the cage to get food. By using the tools provided by Skinner I will devise a modification program for my roommate to make the football team by following operant conditioning techniques. I will first explain what operant conditioning is, the effects it has on behavior, the steps I would take to create a healthy body modification plan, and the types of reinforcements to change behavior.

First and foremost, it is important to understand exactly what operant conditioning is. Operant conditioning is defined as the learning of voluntary behavior through the effects of pleasant and unpleasant consequences to responses. This is known as reinforcement. There are two types of reinforcement, positive and negative. Positive reinforcement is reinforcement of response by a pleasurable consequence, such as becoming employee of the month for working hard. Negative reinforcement is following a response with an unpleasant consequence, such as a silencing an alarm clock to get it to stop ringing. Operant conditioning

Operant conditioning uses reinforcers to increase the likelihood of behavior repeating itself. As explained previously, I would use positive and negative reinforcement to obtain weight loss goals for my roommate. Overtime, my roommate should begin to lose weight and be able to join the football team. I only incorporated eating into my weight loss plan, but ideally weight loss plans should have exercise and diet to obtain maximum results. Weight loss has been known to work better when following a reward based plan versus a punishment based plan. Therefore, operant conditioning is an important learning tool in weight

To further discuss operant conditioning, I will be writing about punishment seen throughout the movie Blackfish in this section of the paper. Blackfish tells the story of Tilikum, a killer whale used for entertainment and the use of operant conditioning to obey orders. Tilikum was first placed in a pool with an already trained whale to learn and perform tricks. Because Tilikum failed to perform, all whales were held from food and led to teeth rakes on Tilikum. This is an example of negative punishment, with food being the removed consequence which leads to a decrease of disobedience from the whale.…

In order to help my roommate lose enough weight to make the football team, there are several steps of operant conditioning that must be followed. First, I must devise a behavior modification plan for my roommate that will motivate him to want to keep progressing toward his goal. In order to make sure that this plan is effective in continuous and steady weight loss, I will use operant conditioning and the schedules of reinforcement to motivate him. I will need to measure his progress or weight loss through exercise. Through behavior modification, positive reinforcement and schedules of reinforcement, I will be able to help my roommate meet his ideal weight goal in order to make the football team.…

Operant conditioning is a type of learning in which behavior is strengthened if followed by a reinforcer or diminished if followed by a punisher. In operant conditioning there are positive reinforcements, negative reinforcements, primary reinforcers, conditioned reinforcers, positive punishments, and negative punishments. In our video we are explaining how operant conditioning applies to Marlene’s sister, Celi, and other teens around the world. In order to teach Marlene’s sister to get good grades she is operantly conditioned by being grounded. Celi’s mom uses negative reinforcement by grounding Celi in order to stop the troubles she has by her daughter getting bad grades.…

In Operant Conditioning some factual points that stood out to me were two-forms of positive and negative reinforcement and punishment. With the use of positive and negative reinforcement to increase or decrease a behavior could be rewarding in molding behaviors in most cases. With the use of operant conditioning, this could also be a great tool to use outside of the classroom. (Positive reinforcement) If a Childs (Behavior) is good during class (Consequence) a parent could praise them on it and treat them out, etc., for such good behavior at school and then (future behavior) the child would continue their progress of behaving in class.…

What is Operant Conditioning? According to the Psychology in Modules book, Operant Conditioning is described as, a type of learning in which behavior is strengthened if followed by a reinforcer or diminished if followed by a punisher (pg. 290). A reinforcer simply known as a reinforcement is described as, any event that strengthens the behavior that follows. Unlike a reinforcement, a punisher known as a punishment, is described to be something that weakens the behavior. Actions that follow reinforcers are increased and actions that follow punishers are decreased.…

B.F. Skinner described Operant Conditioning as changes in behavior to be determined by an individual's response to events (stimuli) in a given environment. The actions of an individual is called a response, and when a desired stimulus response is reinforced the individual may respond in a certain way. In Operant Conditioning there are two different types of reinforcement, positive and negative. Positive Reinforcement (reward) involves presenting a motivating object/item to a person after the desired behavior is given, such as instructing your dog to sit and once your dog sits you reward him immediately with a treat (increasing behavior). Negative Reinforcement involves removing something like an object/item in order to increase a response, such as a child finally cleaning up their toys in order to stop their mother from nagging about the uncleaned toys.…

“Operant conditioning is a method of learning that occurs through rewards and punishments for behavior. Through operant conditioning, an association is made between a behavior and a consequence for that behavior. ” (Kendra Cherry,2014,October,27, Introduction To Operant Conditioning,2014,October,27) If my first plan does not work I am going to ask her for her consent to put her in rehab. When you condition it, the dog learns not to slobber when it sees a bone only when the bone is in its mouth. Operant Conditioning is when the specific type of learning is being controlled by a form of behavior. The way this is achieved is through positive and negative reinforcements. Conditioning through positive punishment would be when you are to add something to enhance the behavior in a negative direction. For example ,if a child kept yelling at his mother in a grocery store for candy and she gives it to him she is increasing his behavior in a negative way.…

In devising a weight loss program for my roommate based on the principle of operant conditioning, I will create a program that focuses on reinforcing healthy eating and exercise habits. By doing this, the reinforcement will increase the probability that my roommate will repeat the desired healthy behaviors. Over the course of one-month, by modifying his eating and exercise behavior, my roommate will certainly see weight loss results that will help him make the football team.…

Operant conditioning is simply having organisms associate their actions and behaviors with consequences through the use of positive and negative reinforces. In the case of a dog jumping on everyone who visits your house, I would use Edward L. Thorndike’s method called ‘law of effect.” This depict behaviors to reoccur more often when rewarded. Unfavorable consequences cause bad behavior to become less likely. Therefore, every single time my dog jumps at an individual, he would have to be put in his cage.…

Classical and Operant Conditioning Name Institutional Affiliation Classical and Operant Conditioning Classical and operant conditioning are two significant concepts essential to behavioural psychology. Classical conditioning was studied by Ivan Pavlov and it involves pairing a previously neutral stimulus with an unconditioned stimulus. The unconditioned stimulus triggers a response naturally and automatically. In classical conditioning, learning refers to involuntary responses that result from experiences that occur before a response. Classical conditioning supports the idea that people develop responses to certain stimuli that are not naturally occurring (Lilienfeld, 2011, p. 204).…
