The old managers see this man and assume that he is a guest of the new managers and the new managers assume that the man is a guest of the old managers. This creates a sense of confusion and therefore no one realises that the man was actually the Opera Ghost. At this point of time, the old managers see it right to tell the old managers about the Opera ghost and the threats he imposes on the Opera. The new managers, however, do not believe this and think that the old managers are playing a practical joke on them.
Chapter 4: In this chapter, the author introduces the new managers. M. Moncharmin and M. Richard, a bit more. The managers still don’t believe in the Opera ghost even after receiving a letter from the Phantom telling them to not sell box five. After Mme. Giry, the box keeper of box five, insists that the story of the Phantom is real she is dismissed by the managers and they call her crazy. The managers then decide to provoke ‘The Phantom’ and decide not only to sell box five, but to sit in it …show more content…
The managers, again believing that this is a practical joke, do the exact opposite of what the Phantom demanded. Due to this when Carlotta and Christine were performing on the stage that evening she suddenly started croaking in the middle of her poem. Not only this but near the end of the performance a chandelier falls on the stage killing the lady who was supposed to be replacing Mme. Giry as the box keeper of box
