Although Open to Growth encourages people to take more responsibility and to jump into situations that may take precious time, budgeting time for loved activities is how to stay away from becoming overwhelmed. In order to be able to master the sub topic Open to Growth has to be known as a whole. Open to Growth is a category in which someone is seeking experiences to mature themselves as a person both internally and externally (“Profile of the Graduate at Graduation”). This category also causes maturity in emotions, feelings, imagination, and socially interacting with others (“Profile of the Graduate at Graduation”). “Leisure is something changes from person to person and from culture to culture” (Kelly and Lane 460). J. R. Kelly and R. E. Lane provide readers of their article “Leisure” with the example of how the leisure time spent of a college student is going to be very different that that spent of a college professor. Even though everyone spends their time of leisure differently the meaning behind the two still resonate: “joyful feelings of freedom, fulfillment, and significance” (Kelly and Lane 460). No matter how leisure time is spent it is ultimately for the bettering of the person. Whether it be at school or at work there are times when all humans are full of stress, jam packed with work, and think that there will never be time to get everything done. This is why leisure is so important and why time needs to be budgeted accordingly for it. The importance of leisure and how a whole generation has successfully dedicated time for it in order to stay young can be seen in the baby boomers. Baby boomers have been lonely known for their desire to stay young or at least act young (Greenblatt). They are able to stay young because of the amount of time they get outside for recreation time, and along with their leisure time which is mostly spent in nature. “Many boomers feel younger than their parents did at the same age, and that's just not their imaginations - or their consumer patterns” (Greenblatt). These boomers are even raising the life expectancy of seniors. Alan Greenblatt even tells us that there is a very good chance for baby boomers to live a youthful old age. It seems as if all these boomers do is dedicate time for leisure and recreation but, “They won't all be exorcise demons or work full time” (Greenblatt) because they know what is best for themselves.
