She looked around the room with curiosity present in her eyes. Everything in the room was floating. She looked left and found a young, blonde woman in a coral dress standing next to a man who looked to be the same age. Her eyes started to close, desperately wanting to go back to sleep, but she couldn’t shake the thought of the strange people in her living room. Suddenly, her body jolted upward and she took a big gasp of air, as if she was drowning in a swimming pool. The strange man reached down and stabilized her on the couch she was laying on. She looked to the windowsill on the right and found two glasses of lemonade. She saw droplets of water sliding down the sides of the glasses and the cold ice she could almost feel on her tongue. “Shh George is doing open heart surgery,” Mae replied, rolling over so she wouldn’t have to answer any more questions in such an intense situation. “Remember Dr. Nathan and Dr. Victoria are coming over later today. I want you on your best behavior.” “Who are they?” “Yesterday, you ate something weird and started acting crazy. I called the hospital and they sent their two best psychiatrists. Once they had gotten here, you had passed out. You know Dr. Victoria. You met her at the hospital holiday party. Did you forget you have a father who works at that very hospital?” “Mom of course I didn’t forget. Who’s Dr. Nathan then? Is he any good?” “I sure hope so. He’s kind of cute,” her mom winked and walked out of Mae’s bedroom. Mae rolled her eyes, which is behavior that is constituted by her mother gawking over someone other than her father. Mae’s phone then flashed a low battery warning, but her charger was on the other side of the room. Just great, she though. Right when I get comfy.
