Open-Ended Questions

My survey proved my initial thought that each of my classmates feels a certain level of stress on a weekly basis. I wasn't very surprised to see that nearly everyone who responded fell into the mid-range frequency levels. Each respondent had at least one part-time job (sometimes two), while an even number have full-time employment. A majority have reported having a spouse or partner, but only one has children which surprised me. As far as coping mechanisms my audience ran the gamut with the major ones being sleeping, eating, and alcohol. Survey takers report that the majority are affected with irritability, tiredness, and headaches. I wasn't surprised at all to learn that the biggest causes of stress are money and school.

The survey was an extremely useful tool in gaining insight into my audience. It is possible that some open-ended questions might have been worthy to add to my survey; however, I was concerned if I didn't narrow down the choices that I would have a hard time writing my speech with enough focus. I see now that open-ended questions are valuable in that it allows audience members to expand on a question and respond in their own words. I think these types of questions also would allow me to evaluate my audiences’ education level and possibly their economic and social status.

I would use the survey data to find other constructive outlets for stress that some of my audience members may not have tried before, such as meditation. Since money and school are the major sources of stress, I could provide resources for these areas in a handout in advance which my audience could follow along with and take with them

Demographics are used to find out information about someone’s characteristics. They can include gender, age, race, sexual orientation, educational level, and ideological or religious views. Most of this information can be found through formal surveys, with open-ended and closed-ended questions. Open-ended questions are questions that do have limitations, while closed-ended questions have multiple choices. These things can help a speaker connect with the audience by relating to them.…

We focused on foods that assist in dealing with stress. We chose dark chocolate and decaffeinated green tea which are both known for their ability to soothe and relieve stress. On the Friday before school holidays, we set up a stall at recess and lunch using two tables and a tablecloth [See Figure 1], the theme of the set up was blue, due to blue being a universally known ‘calm’ colour (Angela Wright, 2015). Posters were hung up around the school in order to advertise the event and help a wider range of people in the school. We gave 1 cup of green tea and 1 square of dark chocolate for each student, as well as stress balls donated from a local business and pamphlets with information such as how to deal with stress, where to get help if overwhelmed stress, other stress relieving foods and other general facts about stress and its causes.…

I have never put much thought into stress, but as time went on I realized how stress genuinely decide our future. There were various points I was interested in, but there are three main points I personally found intriguing: stress can sometimes be manipulated to a greater extent, the amount of stress varies depending on what rank you are associated with in a society, and also how stress can extensively affect a person’s health. Stress can sometimes be manipulated to a greater extent.…

Although many students are reluctant to attend school or drop out early because of the stress, others are unenthusiastic because of the courses they are forced to take or the amount of money necessary for their education. For many students, a normal day in the months of August to June consists of a tedious cycle which repeats itself for an average minimum of 187 days every year. It would seem obvious that with little time to rest or recuperate during the long stretch of constant education, stress would be common and expected. Students spend approximately 7 hours a day in the classroom and then go home only to be required to do an average of 4 1/2 hours of homework each night.…
