Open Cell Narrative

“Guards unlock prison cell 4!” shouted the officer.
“How about the rest?!” the cell operator hollered.
“Not yet. When will you understand that I’ll tell you to open the others, if you need to?” he said frustrated.
“Sorry sir, opening cell 4.” the cell operator said trembling.
That’s Jordan, the officer that pretty much hates his life. We’re all sure of it. He is always been the one to take me and my roommate to lunch, breakfast, and dinner, so he is always in here to open our cells. He is a middle aged guy, probably one of those who is terrified of their own shadow. I’m in here for drug trafficking, and assault. I got about 12 years in here, if not more. So I probably won’t get out until 2017. I’ll be 50 when I get out. My roommate

We always sit at the same table together for breakfast, he’s not in there for lunch though, he says he is trying to “lose weight.” So he comes in at dinner. The cafeteria here stinks, it smells of mold and sweaty men, and everything seems to be white. Except our prison jump suits, they’re a magnificent orange. Lucifer sits at a table alone. Not a surprise. Every day after breakfast I go to the recreation area, and then take a shower afterwards. All prisoners have an hour a day of recreation. But you can earn more for good behavior. I have 2 hours. That is the most you can get. You can use them throughout the day, if you want. So I use a half hour after every meal.
I headed back to my cell with my officer at 10:00 a.m. I’m required to be back in there at 10:15. My roommate was already in the cell.
“Guards open cell 4!” Jordan screamed. I swear every time he yells I just want to rip my hair out. He sounds like a chipmunk. It’s like he yells in my year on purpose.
“Evan Cod you have a visitor!” the speaker screeched statically.
They put it over the intercom when somebody has a visitor or a phone call. I don’t really ever have much visitors. My wife past away about two years ago, that’s what really sent me over the edge. So I ended up here. I have a daughter, Violet, and a son, Ben. They’re 23 and 24, in college. So they can’t come see me much, only about 2 times every month, if

“You’ll never leave” is carved faintly into the brick wall of the small jail cell, probably from its last guest. Every day, I started to believe the phrase more and more.
