Open Carry On Campus

Although open carry has been allowed since August 2016, the idea of carrying a guns on campus is not needed. In a classroom, where the students attend lectures of the given professor is not needed. The number of crime rate will be increased in either homicides or suicides. An awareness of knowing someone has a gun on them at the moment will distract students causing them to feel uncomfortable and unsafe. Guns will be used in self-defense to fend off against the ones who will use their weapon to terrorize the school but the public safety should be left to the professionals who are trained for any uprising. The idea of an intoxicated person wielding a gun does not seem like a good idea but thanks to the open carry on campus there can be an increase of crime rates and problems with the police. Studies have found “gun-owning students are more likely than unarmed college students” to engage in dangerous activities, this can include vandalizing property, reckless driving, using illegal drugs etc. (Dickerson) .By the age of eighteen, the people considered college students to be adults but the brain does not full developed until the mid-twenties. They seek risker behavior to feel excitement, but fail to realize the negative consequence that can occur. High-risk alcohol and drug use are the number one risk for college students. Statistic found “1,700 college students between the ages of eighteen and twenty-four die each year related to unintentional injuries, including motor vehicle crashes” (Dickerson). Alcohol and drug use are already on campus by adding the ability to have guns on campus will definitely lead into a dramatic increase in unintentional injuries, homicides, accidentally shootings and
