Andre provides the reader with an ending to his life story at the front of the text and a beginning to his story at the end of the text. The purpose of this is to capture the reader’s attention so that they will continue reading to discover how his life had come to such a successful ending. This structure is similar to Lance’s autobiography except Lance provides the reader with an insight to his experience of cancer at the start. This leaves the reader wanting to read about his road to recovery and how he had overcome cancer to win the Tour de France. Andre was introduced to tennis from a young age. He was born with a condition called Spondylolisthesis which means his bottom vertebra was parted from the other vertebrae. This could cause him pain during a game so he would have to alter the way he played. His father, Emmanuel was obsessed with tennis and was fixated on the fact that his son would be the best tennis player in the world.
