For the first time in my self-absorbed existence, I had to empathize with someone else and ameliorate another person's problems, instead of leaving them to someone else or just letting that person figure their own issues. In my desire to succeed, I had forgotten one of the main reasons I chose to be a leader: to work with and inspire others, not just hold them accountable. Reflecting on this story, I realize how this leadership role has changed my outlook on handling problems with other people because it forces me to examine others' perspectives and mandates a greater capacity for empathy. Overall, the experience of being this type of leader has been key in my personal development as an adult and has transformed my zealous competitive self into a leader that cares about the well being of those who rely upon my…

Interactive reading has three main components that occur prior to reading the book, during the read aloud, and after the story has been read. The class will preview, read, and discuss the book together as a whole. Interactive writing also involves the collaboration of the entire class to transform their thoughts into words on a paper. Both interactive activities involve the teacher asking questions that will guide the children to completing the desired tasks. Before a story is read aloud the teacher needs to introduce it thoroughly by explaining the genre.…

In that moment I stopped pretending to be okay. I talked about vomiting every morning, about cutting myself and wanting to die, crying myself to sleep, not eating, having to quit theatre, feeling worthless and unloved. And saying those words made me stronger. Feelings of inferiority and are, unfortunately, all too common at BLS, a school that prides itself on rigor and competition -…

On activity 1.8 I helped my group members understand the handshake problem, which we first experimented with in a class activity. At first some of my group members wanted to just count the amount of people there were and multiply it by the amount of handshakes that each person would perform if they shook hands with every person. I realized the problem with using this method is that some handshakes would be performed twice, we wanted the amount of handshakes if each person shook hands with every person only once. Once we realized this, it was easy to figure out how many handshakes would occur with a small group because we could just count, but with a large number this proved more difficult. Finding a formula that worked was easy, the more difficult…

We drove and on the way back, we stayed in a hotel in St. Louis, Missouri.…

At the end of a gym class, my classmate named Justin was about to face the worst possible punishment: he would lose his entire sticker chart and have no free time for a week. This was because our PE teacher was going to report him to Mrs. Hadyk. The problem in my mind was that I hadn’t seen him do a single thing wrong during that class. Now, he and I had barely shared a single social exchange outside required partner work, and he was known to misbehave on a regular basis, but this time I just felt awful for him because he hadn’t done anything to deserve these consequences. It was milling in my mind until we got back to our classroom, and when everyone was back in the classroom, I asked Mrs. Hadyk if I could talk to her in the hallway alone.…

For this reflection, the assigned reading was from Difficult Conversations by Douglas Stone, Bruce Patton, and Sheila Heen. The first part of this chapter broke down difficult conversations into three different conversations, including conversations about the mistake or issue, how each person feels about the issue, and how the conflict makes each party feel about themselves. The conversation about what happened is exactly like it sounds, each party tries to figure out who made the mistake and who is to blame. The feelings conversation examines how each person is feeling and if those feelings are valid and if they should be acknowledged or ignored. Finally, the identity conversation, is a harder conversation that each side has with themselves.…

Self-disclosing can be very controversial because in some way and for some clients, it can be very helpful and therapeutic, however in other cases, it can be seen as a setback and can potentially harm the clients or endanger the therapeutic relationship. In Will’s case, as an observer, I think Sean’s self disclosure had help will in a sense that Sean had become a role model for Will concerning interpersonal and intimate relationships. During the course of therapy, Sean’s self disclosure had been more beneficial than harmful, however, it is my concern that Sean giving self disclosure to will was in fact him trying to heal his own pain.…

Through this process we focused on what we wanted to represent as a team working together in the best interest of our students. In the end we developed a vision that is now a foundation for our success, because everyone will benefit from our accomplishments. If we are able to effectively collaborate, which is important to our vision, then we will be able to create challenging lessons for our students and make certain that we are meeting the need of all students and inspiring them for future experiences. During the vision creating process, I also gained some perspective of things I need to develop for my future as a leader. Knowing that my personality is led by my feelings, there were moments when I did take things a little too personal.…
