The name of our disorder is onycholysis. Onycholysis is the painless removal of the nail from the nail bed, and is a common disorder. It can be a sign of skin disease or infection. This injury mainly happens to women who have long nails. The nail acts as a lever taking the nail away from the skin. Infection with bacteria and yeast start to form in the space under the nail, which causes the loose part of the nail to turn a white, yellow, or green.
There is a wide range of possible causes of onycholysis. The disease can be caused by fungal infections, psoriasis, which is a skin condition that causes cells to grow too quickly, repetitive tapping, or prolonged immersion of the nails in water.
