If a student needs face-to-face interaction and a more organized structure, then traditional schooling is the student’s most viable option. In contrast, one may need a flexible schedule and the availability to learn in a self-directed pace. In this case, online schooling is the most viable option. Lack of interaction in an online course is a disadvantage. On the other hand, a brick and mortar school setting has the interaction that is required by some students. Tight deadlines and strenuous schedules, make taking traditional courses difficult. However, online schools are easier to manage. Online school lowers the cost of necessities such as, travel, babysitters, and books. Also, it allows the student the freedom to take breaks when needed, while traditional schools discourage interruptions during class or lectures. A lot of information is available for presenting the mechanics of teaching courses online, Jennings and Bayless mention that “Although seldom discussed by colleges and universities, distant education provides a competitive opportunity for schools to offer courses beyond their geographic boundaries.” (p.184).
