Recent advancements in technology have allowed many students to complete their schoolwork over the internet. However, there is much controversy surrounding this topic because of many issues with online technology. Many people believe that students taking online classes will not be as effective as studying in a traditional classroom. Despite these claims, online classrooms have proved to be very effective, as the benefits of online classes outweigh the negatives. Online classrooms come with many advantages, such as easier access to information, more flexible learning schedules, and are more cost effective. However, the flaws of a traditional classroom greatly outnumber the flaws of online courses. One of the major problems with online education is the lack of face-to-face interaction. Strong relations with peers and professors helps students ask questions and learn important social skills. Online courses typically have a larger amount of work than traditional classes, but hardworking students should have very little problem with this. Self motivation is also a huge issue with online courses. Students given too much flexibility will often times procrastinate and end up not ultimately achieving their intended goals. While these factors are important to consider before choosing online courses, traditional classes have many issues as well. In a standard classroom environment there is little emphasis on the needs of the individual and more focus on the class as a whole. There is also more emphasis on memorization and learning is based on repetition rather than understanding concepts in their entirety. This lack of understanding does not help students in the slightest in the long run because they’ll lack the methods used to understand and fix problems.
