Online dating, a service designed to simplify interactions between potential romantic suitors, has become increasingly popular over the years. Due to its easy and convenient access, it has become the link into the world of dating. Whether the website is seeking to connect couples for long-term or just for the night, the main ingredients of a dating site are roughly the same. The seeker fills out a personal profile, answering a variety of personal questions and attaching one or more pictures of themselves, and then goes on lurking and judging other peoples profiles, until finally they fall upon a few people with whom they engage in a conversation with. As a seeker, the essentials of a dating site consist of information about another person from which we can decide whether or not they have what we are searching for. These categories consist of age, gender, race, income, profession, class, and other personal information that one would normally not find out in a first real-life meeting. We assess people based on their identities provided online, which commonly consist of well-established categories as the ones previously mentioned. Even in the twenty-first century, our identities are still measured by our standings in the world, and it is all on display in the online community where people choose their potential partners based on a personal check-list.
