Many turn to Facebook when trying to find more information on a potential partner. Some might say that people will lose the mystery and fun of finding these things out in person. While others find comfort in knowing certain things about the person they may meet in public in the future. Online dating is somewhat of a “safe zone” for people who would otherwise be scared to pursue a date in a crowded public venue. An individual may feel more comfortable expressing themselves behind a keyboard, rather than out on the town. Social media is a double edged sword when it comes to sexual predators and “catfishes”. Catfishes are individuals who post photos of someone else. They then claim to be that different person, leading someone on for as long as possible. The worst part of catfishing is when they are finally caught it is usually after they have met the person they have been fooling in public. Online dating still poses a risk of abduction by a sexual predator. Face to face meetings should be done in an open place with a lot of people.
